Description
The latest 5G narrowband satellite standards (NB-NTN) are revolutionizing IoT data communication. Viasat’s new IoT Direct product, utilizing their resilient L-band spectrum provides reliable coverage across most of the planet ensuring your data flows when needed.
Our Direct to Device solution exploits this technology with the specific data interface required for your equipment thus optimizing power requirements. These devices can be integrated with the physical hardware or as stand-alone units, depending upon the specific requirements of the use case. The need for repeaters, gateways, or local RF engineering are eradicated. Our battery-operated devices are designed to function without solar or wired power sources.
Features
Two-Way Communication: Suitable for monitoring and control of IoT sensors and equipment. Messages up to 256 bytes for both monitoring and control use cases.
Ultra Low Power Consumption: Extends battery life and reduces operational costs. Devices are optimized to last up to 10 years on a single battery, thanks to efficient power usage and application-focused design.
Cost-Effective: Affordable hardware that meets your needs without breaking the bank.
Compact Design: Small form factor ideal for various applications.
Enhanced Coverage and Connectivity: L-Band frequency ensures robust and reliable global coverage in wet weather. GEO satellites require simpler, lower power antenna with line of sight to the satellite. Overcome geographical limitations and enjoy continuous connectivity where terrestrial networks can’t reach.
3GPP NB-NTN Standard: Powered by the latest narrowband satellite IoT standards, ensuring superior performance and future-proofing your investment.
Scalability: Connecting the device directly to satellite, Direct to Device provides effortless scalability, simplifies setup and reduces costs.
Secure Data Delivery: Data can be securely exchanged via API, ensuring safe and reliable information exchange integrated into your own specialist systems.
Remote Terminal Manager
The user interface is provided by the Remote Terminal Manager application. Alternatively, the data is available via API. The user can monitor connectivity and hardware status, such as:
- Usage
- Valve position
- Signal strength
- Battery level
- Location
- As well as control the equipment in the field.
Use Cases
Suitable for adaption to a range of massive IoT applications including:
- Asset Tracking
- Periodic Measurements
- Threshold Alerting
- Simple Remote Control
Water Metering and Control
Approach 100% automation of water usage monitoring by using Satellite Direct to Device (D2D) to bridge the coverage gap cellular, LoRa, and other RF systems can’t. Our first devices provide water meter readings and valve control for water consumers. Satellite communication devices read the usage from the meter (either integrated into the meter or as a separate positionable unit) and control the isolation valve.
Irrigation
Satellite Direct to Device (D2D) connection via the RAVE Tech Direct Connect (RTD2) can help bridge the coverage gap cellular, LoRa, and other RF systems can’t. The ability to remotely connect to devices to send data and commands is crucial in today’s irrigation distribution world. The RTD2 can help connect center pivots and drip irrigation systems installed in remote parts of the US and around the world with one device and no infrastructure to set up, just 99% uptime and availability via Satellite.
Ground & Surface Water management
Management and control of our world’s most precious resource has been an important goal of many companies, states, and countries around the world. With the new RTD2 system, water resource districts around the US and world can now reach wells, water level sensors, stream gauges, and many other water monitoring devices with over 99% uptime and availability and lower management costs. This allows for 100’s of millions of data points to be gathered and monitored faster, and more reliably to understand how our surface and groundwater is being impacted by global weather and manmade effects. Remote monitoring via the Satellite connected RTD2 also reduces the amount of man hours and vehicles on the road going to remote locations to manually gather data.
